Peach puff pastry recipe
Ingredients for Peach Danish
- Puff Pastry – Ready-made or make some yourself. Have enough to be able to cut into nine equal pieces
- Fresh Peaches – You will want them to be ripe so that they are sweet and juicy.
- Cinnamon Powder – the cinnamon works really well with the peach and is a flavor sensation.
- Flour – plain is best for this recipe.
- Vanilla Extract – to give a little extra sweetness.
- Brown Sugar
- Pecans – crush them so that they have a little crunch but are also palatable
- Egg – only for egg washing so one egg whisked is enough
- Vanilla icing – again you can buy this at your local store or create your own with some icing sugar and water.
How to make Peach Danish at home
This is a really simple recipe but creates such lovely pastries that are perfect for a summer’s day on a picnic or a dessert. Here is the method for you to follow.
- Get your pastry and cut it into 9 equal pieces. Ready-made should make this easier but you can create your own puff pastry if you have the time.
- Grab your fresh peaches and cut them into wedges. The riper the better as this means there will be no bitterness and they will taste delicious.
- With your peach wedges combine them with to flour, cinnamon, and vanilla.
- Equally divide the peaches and place them in the middle of each pastry piece.
- Then sprinkle with the brown sugar and crushed pecans
- Brush the edges of the pastry with the egg.
- Place in a pre-heated oven for 15 minutes
- Leave the Danishes to cool and then sprinkle them with the vanilla icing.
- Enjoy as many as you can handle.
Recipe Notes and tips
I wanted to share with you some recipe notes and tips that could help you to easily recreate the Peach Danish at home. Here are some of the things to remember:
- You can make it easier for yourself by buying store-bought and ready-made alternatives to some of the ingredients listed above. Puff Pastry is very difficult to make yourself and does require a fair bit of time and effort. Store-bought ready-made options are just as good and very convenient. You could also buy other read-made things including icing,
- Make sure you pre-heat the oven. This means that it will be optimum temperature when you place the Peach Danish in there and enables them to be cooked throughout and for the puff pastry to rise on the outside of the fruit.
- If you are wanting to serve these in the morning give yourself about an hour before you want to enjoy them. It gives you time to make them and also for them to cool down after they get out of the oven. The more time you have, the more time they can cool.
- A note on cooling them. If you don’t allow the Peach Danish to cool for long enough the icing won’t sit on them and set nicely. Instead, if the pastry is too hot, the icing will melt and you won’t create delectable Danishes.
- Are your peaches ripe enough? If you have bought some peaches in the store but they don’t feel ripe enough yet then you can speed up the process. Place the peaches in a bowl with some bananas. The Bananas release a gas called ethene and this helps to ripen fruit. It works for other things like avocados and pears.
Variations you could try
Not a fan of peaches or are just interested in how you could vary this peach Danish recipe? I have some ideas that you might want to try.
- You could try this with other fruit. It might be that you want to experiment with options such as apples, apricots, raisins, and cherries. With fruits like apples instead of cutting into wedges, you might want to cut them into smaller bitesize chunks so they caramelize in the oven.
- If you don’t like pecans you could try flaked almonds instead.
- You might be looking for alternatives to fruit, Danish pastries commonly have other ingredients in them such as custard and jam. This could be a lovely alternative and you can easily buy ready-made custard to make the recipe easy to make.
- Lastly, you don’t always need to drizzle with icing if you wanted to step away from tradition. Some people find it too sweet, but you could melt some chocolate and drizzle that over instead as something a little different.
FAQs
You may have some questions, so hopefully, I have covered them below but please feel free to leave me a comment or get in touch via social media if you want to ask me anything.
Can you make these ahead?
You can make these ahead of time and they keep really well. You will find that once they have been made and cooled, you can store them in the refrigerator for up to seven days.
Can you freeze the peach danish pastry?
If you don’t manage to eat them all, you could consider freezing them. They will freeze well but won’t last as long as other items in there. Make sure you consume them within two weeks of freezing.
Let’s hope this has inspired you to create some peach Danish at home. I hope you have enjoyed this recipe and if you did, please let me know in the comments section below.
