History of Cookie Dough Ice Cream
Did you know the first cookie dough ice cream came out in 1984? Not too long ago at all! It’s truly a marvel of the modern era. It said that Ben and Jerry’s ice cream brand receives credit as the first to make the delicious treat. But in reality, the inspiration came from an anonymous tipster placing a flavor suggestion on the brand’s “Suggestion Board.”
A little while later, Peter Lind (Ben and Jerry’s ice cream expert) collaborated with another food expert from Rhino Foods, Ted Castle. Together they established the perfect cookie dough consistency that could last perfectly in pints sold at retail stores. Lo and behold, the boom of cookie dough ice cream!
I love a scoop of deliciously fun history to match deliciously fun desserts.

Yes! Eating raw cookie dough can you put you at risk of salmonella exposure. That’s why cooking your flour ahead of time is essential to keeping the bacteria at bay. All you have to do is measure what you need and spread it out thin on a cookie sheet. Bake it for approximately five minutes at 350 degrees.

When I’ve made this cookie dough recipe, my ice cream lasted three weeks before it began to develop the dreaded ice crystals. Store it in your freezer for ongoing deliciousness. But beware! It may be beyond challenging to stop yourself from gobbling it all up. It certainly doesn’t stay around long in my family’s freezer! It’s just too yummy.
How Do I Store My Homemade Ice Cream?
This is probably obvious, but just to be sure: Store your ice cream in the freezer. All jokes aside, ice cream keeps best in an airtight container like all other baked or non-baked treats. You can simply store the completed ice cream in the same bread pan you used when making the recipe. If you don’t have a proper lid to cover the dish, tightly covering it with plastic wrap should do the trick. And voila! Simple storage.
