How to make watermelon margaritas
What is a watermelon margarita made of?
Usually watermelon margaritas are made with fresh watermelon, tequila, lime juice, and simple syrup. Some recipes also call for orange liqueur or triple sec to give the drink a more complex flavor profile. My recipe is made with:
- fresh watermelon, cubed
- honey
- fresh limes
- Ice
- white tequila
- salt for the rim of the glass
Instructions to make the best watermelon margarita
- Place the fresh lime juice, honey, and tequila in a blender. Mix well.
- Then blend the watermelon for 90 seconds.
- Run the watermelon juice through a fine mesh strainer. Use a silicone spatula to push the pulp through. Discard the seeds and large pulp.
- Place the mix in the refrigerator for 1 hour to chill.
- Slice the lime and rub it along the rim of the glass. Immediately dip the glass in a small bowl with the salt.
- Stir drink mixture.
- Add your ice and pour summer fiesta into your glass!
- Garnish with lime and watermelon.
Recipe variations
- For a fruity twist on the classic margarita, try adding some other fresh juices or purees. Some popular choices are pineapple juice, mango puree, and strawberry puree.
- You can also try using flavored simple syrups for an even more unique flavor profile.
- For a refreshing and light drink, add some tonic water or club soda for added effervescence.
- To add some kick to your watermelon margaritas make some spicy watermelon margaritas! Try adding a splash of hot sauce or jalapeno slices.
- You can also muddle some chili flakes in the bottom of the shaker for a spicier flavor profile.
- Adding a small amount of cayenne pepper will also give your drink an extra zing that’s sure to make your taste buds dance!
Frequently asked questions
Does watermelon and alcohol go together?
Absolutely! Watermelon margaritas are the perfect balance of sweet and tart flavors. With a blend of fresh watermelon, lime juice, and tequila, you’ll get the perfect combination of fruity sweetness and tartness that will have your taste buds singing.
Which watermelons are the best?
For the best-tasting margaritas, look for watermelons that are ripe and juicy. Choose a watermelon with a bright yellow spot on one end; this is a sign that it has been ripening in the sun and will have sweeter flavor than those without. You’ll also want to avoid any watermelons with soft or mushy spots, as these can indicate that the melon is overripe.
Are margaritas really strong?
It depends on how you make them. Some recipes call for more tequila than others, so it’s really up to your preference if you want a stronger or weaker margarita. You can also add more lime juice or watermelon puree, depending on what kind of flavor profile you’re going for.
What alcohol goes best with watermelon?
Tequila is a popular choice for watermelon margaritas simply because tequila is one of the main ingredients in a classic margarita recipe. The sweetness of the melon pairs nicely with the tartness of lime juice and saltiness of tequila, creating a perfectly balanced drink that’s sure to be enjoyed by all!
Other alcohol types that go well with watermelon are vodka, gin, and rum. You can also mix in some other juices or purees to make a more complex and fruity drink.
What’s the best way to serve watermelon margaritas?
Watermelon margaritas are best served chilled in either a mason jar or a wine glass with a salted rim. Add some ice cubes and a few slices of watermelon for an extra special touch. You can also garnish your glass with a lime wedge or a sprig of fresh mint to complete the look.
How many calories are in a watermelon margarita?
The calories in a watermelon margarita can vary depending on the ingredients used and the size of the glass. On average, one 12-ounce margarita made with tequila, lime juice, and agave syrup contains about 260 calories. Â To reduce the calorie count, you can use club soda instead of tequila or use less simple syrup. Â You can also opt for a lower-calorie alternative such as vodka, or use fresh fruits to sweeten the drink.
